The realm of sociality: notes on the design of social software

At first I have to say that the sentence "sociality cannot be designed; it can only be designed for" is very relevant, if this is in mind of the designers of social software, then their job can be better to offer good things to people.

To me the social software didn't represented something important in my life, but now with this paper I can see that some of the social software available on the web can be useful in some places, furthermore I'm watching that some business are using Twiiter and/or Facebook and/or google plus and this is to me a signal that something important is happening. By instance I can see that newspapers like "Diario deportivo Record" news anchors from CNN, ESPN, and etcetera are using Twitter to maintain the people update with relevant news. Also some cinemas launch its promotions at this way furthermore informs about new movies.

Another important things are social software like LinkedIn where we can promote us to get a job across people that we know, also we can search for people to hire to work in our company. This kind of social software results very useful to me, some other social platforms doesn¡¦t like to me a lot because I didn¡¦t find very useful, to me are more to fun. But at this point some of this platforms result also useful for some organizations, by example Facebook is used to establish communication between the people and the communication media or famous people, also we can find opportunities to reconnect with people from school or family that lives on another country or state.

At this time I can see that today the social software is very relevant around the world, everybody are entering to this big world and now the communication is mainly by this platforms, the e-mail is now less used than a years ago.

Now also we can find new platforms like soundcloud, where the groups share their new music to promote, and this represent a new way to offer their job with people of another places far away, before this can¡¦t be imagined. Soundcloud also is a type of social software and can be linked with another platforms.

In some way I'm trying to enter to this world of sociality at this way but results me a little hard because I like more the direct contact with the people, but in some way I find this very important and useful because the things I can see that are happening with this new form of sociality, I can say that I had recommended to some people to enter at this new world to get another form to know what want their customers.

What are the issues you found more innovative in reading Bouman et al. (2007)?

o The development of the framework because it can help to understand more why the social networks are like we know today, this can explain also the success of some brands like facebook or twitter.

Do you understand Wenger's (1988) claim that "Sociality cannot be desiged; it can only be designed for"?

o I understand that we cannot create a design of how can be the sociality in a software, the only thing than we can do is to create a software that is useful to sociality. We can only make the tools to motivate the sociality.

Look at the list of references in the bibliography. Are you familiar with the System Theory sources they cite?

o No, I think that I need to read more.

What do you think of having blogs as references in this work?

o It's a little weird because the professors of another classes said us that we need to find information only on papers or journals. I tried to visit some blogs but a few doesn't exists. I think that the blogs are a good chance to get useful information, the only conditional is verify the reliability of the author.

Did you visited any of those blogs?
o Yes, a few of those blogs doesn't exist. I¡¦m reading those blogs that still existing, I hope to finish the reading soon.
